Criminal Injury Compensation (CICA) Claims by RAM Legal Services

The effects of a criminal injury can be serious, with many victims suffering from lasting physical and psychological damage and distress. If you've been injured either physically or mentally as a result of a criminal act you may be entitled to claim compensation through the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority ( CICA ) Scheme.  RAM Legal Services, an independent claims management company with over 15 years of experience, can act as your legal representative on a No Win No Fee* basis. We will  ensure that a criminal injury specialist  handles your claim from start to finish and ensure that a fair outcome is reached with the maximum possible award granted.

What is the Criminal Injuries Compensation or CICA Scheme? The Criminal Injuries Compensation authority or CICA for short is a government organisation that provides compensation for blameless victims of violent crime throughout the UK The CICA pay out awards ranging from £1000 to £500,000 depending on the severity of your injuries. If you, a friend or a family member have suffered physical or psychological injuries as a result of a violent crime at some point in your life, you may be entitled to compensation under the Scheme!

Why choose us as your legal representation? You can make your application to the Criminal Injuries Authority yourself, without legal representation.

We are a team of independent criminal injury specialists who work on a NO WIN NO FEE* basis and represent thousands of clients in making applications for criminal injuries compensation against the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority or CICA for short. Our many satisfied customers prefer to have the help and assistance of our specialist staff when making their application. We offer crime victims support in recovering compensation from the criminal injuries compensation authority by acting as their independent legal representatives.

Naturally our clients find our help and advice particularly useful, as this process usually takes over 12 months and can become complex and frustrating, especially when chasing information or if your application is rejected. Should this be the case, we work very hard to review rejections on your behalf. If necessary we also arrange to represent you at a Tribunal hearing. In many cases the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority will also ask you to make an advance payment of £50.00 for obtaining medical evidence from your GP or hospital. In some cases the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority agree to have the fee deferred until the end of the case to be deducted from any compensation payment made.

Can I Claim Compensation Under the CICA Scheme? In order to qualify for an award under the Criminal Injuries Compensation ( CICA ) Scheme 2012 you must meet the following criteria:
  1. The incident was reported to the police within 48 hours or as soon as reasonably possible.
  2. Your injuries are serious enough to meet the minimum award of £1000 (we will assess this during our initial discussion with you).
  3. The incident happened within the last two years (in certain circumstances, usually relating to  sexual abuse / assault claims the two year time limit can be waived).
  4. The incident occurred in England, Wales or Scotland.
  5. You have no unspent criminal convictions other than driving offences .

Our Service  By working with you and the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority, our specialist criminal injury team can achieve an appropriate criminal injuries compensation award for your losses. We can also advise you on benefits and payments available to you if you are left permanently or temporarily disabled or unable to work. The CICA scheme enables you to make a successful claim even if an offender is not identified, caught or convicted. Contact our criminal injury claim specialists before you make assumptions about the likely success or failure of your case. All claims are dealt with on a No Win, No Fee* basis and we never ask for up front payments. If we are successful we will deduct 30% including VAT from your award. This means that if you are awarded £1000 we will deduct £300 for our work and you will receive £700.

My advisor put me at ease. This was a difficult process for me to recall but I was made to feel at ease not judged. The claim was dealt with a lot quicker than I expected. Although no amount of money will ever make up for the trauma I experienced the award was more than I expected. Thank you Ross and the rest of RAM.

Georgia has been exemplary in the way she has been with me, always caring always staying in touch keeping me informed of how the process is going letting me know right away of any changes or if there's something else needing signed or sent in. It's been a long 4 years but finally it's all sorted. Georgia you have been there through thick n thin with me, it's been like having this amazing friend at the end of the phone who done everything she could to help me even through the pandemic where important places that I needed to get information from were shut due to covid but Georgia was very patient and we both kept trying and eventually got the information we needed. You will never know how eternally grateful I am to you.
Thank you so much ❤👍😁💐🤗❤

My experience with Shannon and the team were exceptional!! Nothing will take away the abuse that any off us has suffered. But with the help and dedication off the team I can now look forward to a brighter future. I am forever thankful for the support and help through such an awful time.I felt that I was taken serious and believed which meant a lot more than the money I received. The abuse that I suffered made me feel worthless and I thought that nobody would believe me. Shannon gave me the strength to fight and the outcome was more than I'd ever have thought. Shannon was always there to talk me through and made me comfortable and was always there when I needed questions/ queries answering. Thank you so much for everything that you and the team have done for me. The work that you do is amazing and you deserve the world and more.😊😊

Dealt with Georgia, absolute star she was. Nothing but polite to me and helpful in every way possible. Went above and beyond to help with the claim! Claim went from not being accepted, to tribunal, then accepted, then first payment was low, to then getting a higher payment. Although I didn’t get the highest payment, Georgia did her best for me and I couldn’t of asked more from her really! Again a pleasure to deal with! :)

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to use a legal representative?
You do not have to use a legal representative and you can apply to CICA direct. By doing this you will be responsible for the conduct of your own application including any reviews or tribunal hearings should your application be rejected. There are also other organisations such as Victim support who may be able to offer advice free of charge regarding making a claim.
Can I do this myself?
You can make the application yourself, without legal representation.  If you wish to represent yourself in making a claim to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority you can do so by calling them on 0300 003 3601 or by visiting their website https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/criminal-injuries-compensation-authority
How do RAM get paid for dealing with my case
We will deal with your criminal injury claim on a 'No Win No Fee' basis. We only get paid once you receive your compensation. We take a standard fee of 30% of your award for acting as your representative in a criminal injury matter . There are no hidden charges or VAT that are added to this amount. For example if you are awarded £1000 you will receive £700 after our fee has been deducted from your award.
What if my claim is rejected?
If the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority decide that you are not eligible for an award we will look at appealing their decision. Where relevant we will form an appeal paper to challenge the CICA's decision. If the CICA still decide not to award you compensation for your injuries we can take your case to a tribunal and where relevant  form further appeals and arguments to present to the Tribunal panel.
How long does it take ?
The length of time it takes to settle a criminal injury case depends on the complexity of the incident in question and the availability of the evidence. Part of each claim involves obtaining; GP Records, Police Reports, Court Records and CRB checks, all of which takes time. Therefore the average settlement time of a criminal injury case is around 12 months however some cases settle much quicker than this where as some take longer.
what if the offender is not convicted?
As long as you assisted the police in their investigations you may still be eligible for compensation if the offender was not convicted.
can I claim if I have a criminal record ?
Under the new Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme 2012 you are not eligible for an award if you have any unspent convictions. The CICA will perform a Criminal Records Bureau check on each applicant before making an offer of compensation.
